The Shield of the 157: A Father’s Promise and a State-Wide Mission

A NOTICE THAT THE LAND WAS FOR SALE

It began with a ticking clock that no one was supposed to beat. In December 2024, 157 families across the Colony and Silver Shores manufactured home communities received a notice that felt like a death sentence: the land beneath our homes was for sale.

The law gave us 70 days—an illogical, impossible window—to organize and compete against multi-million dollar corporate developers.

As a single father and full-time student, I realized that if we didn’t build a shield ourselves, no one was coming to save us.

On January 16th, 2025, we celebrated my daughter’s 16th birthday. The moment we finished eating cake, I stood up, walked out the front door, and started knocking. There wasn’t a second to lose.

We had done the "impossible"

From January to March 2025, I lived through a 51-day sprint of sleep deprivation and grit. By the end of that race, we had done the “impossible”: we unified 80% of our tenants, established a board, and incorporated as a legal entity.

At that stage, I had gained our first vital piece of legal leverage—a single shield of tenant rights that I hoped would be enough to interfere with the sale’s conclusion.

I was grateful for that one shield, prepared to fight with everything I had, but I was running on fumes and had no idea that anyone else was in the trenches with us. I didn’t know AMHO existed. I was just one father holding a line for 157 families.

Joining forces with AMHO

Then, in August 2025, a newspaper article appeared like a beacon of light in the darkness. It was the story of AMHO (Association of Manufactured Home Owners) and their grueling two-year legislative battle. Their victory—securing an emergency moratorium and zoning protections—was the saving grace we never saw coming.

Just as my energy was fading and my one shield was being tested, AMHO provided the legislative armor that turned our 51-day effort into a lasting defense. Our two paths were destined to collide; their legislative grit gave our ground-level leverage the power to actually stop the clock.

EMERGENCY ORDINANCE APROVAL TO FREEZE ON REDEVELOPING MANUFACTURED HOME PARKS

Together, we did what the system said couldn’t be done. By leveraging the collective rights of our members, we triggered a formal State Attorney General investigation and forced the sale to a halt.

Today, we operate as a Dual-Shield of protection.

NWCMC provides the first shield: the immediate, tactical interference in the sale process through member-led leverage.

AMHO provides the second shield: the long-term legislative protection that changes the rules for every developer in the state.

We have turned a 70-day trap into a battle that can be slowed down by years, giving families the “breathing room” they need to survive.
